It is hard to believe it’s already the end of May. Mother’s Day was two weeks ago and my daughter came to take my Level 1-2 class on Mother’s Day. My schedule changed this year as I teach early Hatha class at 8am and I was not sure if she wanted to wake up early to come to my class, but she woke up early, wore matching leggings from K-Deer and was ready to roll!
It was a pleasure to see many regular students with their families and friends on that day.
To honor Mother’s Day and because of my daughter’s presence, I themed the class “Love Yourself -Cultivating Gratitude”. I thought it was appropriate for the special day.
We started centering with heart mudra and I read the following quote:
“I find that when we really love and accept and approve of ourselves exactly as we are, then everything in life works.” Louise Hay
We sat in these words and explored what came up for us. It was self-inquiry and mindfulness practice to connect to awaken our hearts.
Throughout the class, we practiced opening our hearts and shoulders by activating the heart chakra. The heart chakra is a difficult place to open. Self-love requires surrendering but at the same time needs courage and power. My class was a mix of empowerment and relaxation.
Being a mom is challenging; it requires time, patience, struggles, energy, sacrifice, and responsibility, but it is one of the greatest joys in my life! Even though I am not with her, I am truly grateful to my mom in Japan who supports me, listens to my struggles, and trusts my decision on Facetime without judgment all the time.
My daughter’s insight after the class was she liked inspirational self-love quote, playlist and felt more connected herself
I am hoping my daughter keeps loving herself and taking this yogic wisdom for her future struggles and difficult times in her life.
One more thing I would like to address today is I am adding one more class from next month.
