Trust Your True Voice

The air start cooler, and the leaves are turning beautiful shade of autumn.

As we entered in Yin season of fall and move toward darker time of the year, I find myself reflecting on the year so far. Autumn invites us to slow down, pause, and look a little deeper within ourselves.

Earlier this year, I faced several important decisions. Whenever I have to make a big decision, I find that I need to quiet the voices around me and turn inward to listen to my true voice.

My all-time favorite author and mentor, Louise Hay, called this intuitive feeling her “Inner Ding.” She often shared how she made decisions by listening to this inner knowing. If her Inner Ding said no, she would not move forward with it.

Of course, I sometimes ask my family and friends for advice. Their perspectives are valuable, but ultimately, I have to make my own decisions and listen to what feels right deep inside.

One of the most challenging decisions I faced earlier this year involved my daughter. My family and friends disagreed with the path I believed was right for her. They thought I was making the wrong choice.

Yet, every time I meditated and went deeper within, asking myself what I truly believed was right, the answer remained the same:

“Go for it.”

My intuition was very strong, and I felt called to follow my true voice, even when it meant going against the opinions of people I love. Choosing a less traditional path was not easy, and at times, it brought frustration and disagreement within my family. Still, I felt certain that I needed to move forward with what I believed was in my daughter’s best interest.

Today, I am grateful I trusted that inner voice. The decision I made is beginning to lead us in a positive direction, and both my daughter and the rest of my family are happy with how things are unfolding.

This experience reminded me that trusting ourselves doesn’t mean we will never feel afraid or uncertain. It means having the courage to listen within, even when others may not understand our choices.

Unshakable Trust Mudra

Throughout this process, I often practiced the Unshakable Trust Mudra (Vajrapradama Mudra), which I first learned from my yoga studio owner, Betsy Davis, at Bhakti Barn Yoga Studio during my 200-hour yoga teacher training.

Although I believed I was making the right decision, fear and doubt still surfaced from time to time, clouding my confidence. In those moments, this mudra helped me reconnect with my inner strength and trust.

In Sanskrit, vajra can mean “diamond,” symbolizing indestructibility, or “thunderbolt,” representing an unstoppable force. Vajrapradama Mudra is known as the gesture of unshakable trust and is often practiced to cultivate confidence and inner stability.

I often practice this mudra during meditation in Thunderbolt Pose (Vajrasana). When I teach a class with the theme of unshakable trust, I incorporate it into our centering practice, Mountain Pose, affirmations, and guided meditation before Savasana.

Whenever I bring my hands into this gesture, I feel more grounded and connected to my courage and self-confidence. It reminds me that even when fear and doubt arise, I can return to the trust that lives within me.

How to Practice Unshakable Trust Mudra

This is a simple mudra you can practice while seated comfortably for meditation.

  1. Sit or Stand with tall, straight spine.
  2. Place your hands in front of your heart center with the palms facing inward toward your body.Open the fingers and interlace them while extending the thumbs upward.
  3. Relax the shoulder back and down, with the elbows slightly away from the body and the spine naturally aligned.
  4. Take a few slow, deep breaths, allowing yourself to settle into the present moment.
  5. Gently repeat this affirmation:

“Today, I am confident. I trust myself fully and completely.”

Notice how you feel as you breathe. You don’t need to push away fear or force yourself to feel confident. Simply allow yourself to be present and gently return to your breath and affirmation.

Trust is not about knowing exactly how everything will unfold. It is about having the courage to listen within, take the next step, and remain open to the journey.

When we learn to trust ourselves, we become more aligned with our authentic nature and more open to the possibilities the Universe may have in store for us.

May you find the courage to listen to your true voice

Namaste
